Your file stays in your browser. We keep totals.

Billtrim reads your Cost Explorer or CUR file on your device and sends a compact summary. Here is exactly what that summary holds, what it leaves out, and how you remove it.

What leaves your browser

  • Total cost and the billing period
  • Cost per service, usage type, region and month, and a daily total series
  • Usage quantities for the lines that price rules need (for example GB through a NAT gateway)
  • For a CUR file, the top resource IDs by cost and the cost-allocation tag keys present, so a finding can point at the resource to change

What never leaves your browser

  • The file itself and its individual rows
  • Line item descriptions, account names and tag values

The summary is capped at about 1 MB however large the file is. A 300,000-row CUR becomes a few hundred kilobytes.

What we keep, and for how long

  • The summary and the findings computed from it, saved to your account so you can reopen them and compare months
  • Analyses are kept for the history window of your plan (90 days on Free) and then removed
  • An analysis you run before signing in is held for that session and attached to your account when you sign up

How findings are written

The savings and the arithmetic come from a fixed table of AWS prices and rules, each with its source page. A language model then phrases the steps and orders them for you. It receives the summary of totals, never the file, and the dollar figures it shows are the ones the rules computed.

Your controls

  • Export everything held about you as JSON from Settings
  • Delete one analysis, or your whole account and every summary with it, from Settings. Deletion is immediate
  • Share links expose one analysis to whoever has the link; revoke one and it stops working at once
